2010 Adventures

Spring Mandalay Nature Trail Adventure

The South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center (SLWDC) is partnering again with the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge to offer its second annual Spring Mandalay Nature Trail Adventure.  The spring event was a wetlands learning activity for middle school students. Students will journey to the Mandalay Nature Trail which exemplifies the fauna and flora indigenous to the area. The trail provides examples of freshwater habitats which can be explored and studied. While on the trail, students will participate in a wetlands foliage scavenger hunt.  Teachers will lead the students through the hunt and will explain the differences between native and nonnative, invasive and non-invasive, and the benefits as well as the harmful characteristics of the plants.  Students will then journey back to the Terrebonne Folklife Culture Center to discuss their findings and undertake other wetlands activities.  The trail event is scheduled for the May 1.

This camp is made possible by sponsorships from Apache Corporation, Magnum Mud Equipment Co., Inc., Whitney Bank, Buquet Distributing, Co., Inc., Bourgeois & Associates, Inc., Gamma Chapter - Kappa Kappa Iota, and Berwick and Alexis Duval.
